Turkeys

Our most famous Turkey that we have is called Elvis. We regularly have Turkeys hatch on the farm, and we love adding to our little family of birds!

Facts about Turkeys

How Big Are Turkeys?

Turkeys are bigger than you think! The average Turkey can weigh up to 22 pounds, have a wingspan of 5 feet wide and can be around 4 feet long. Some Turkeys are smaller than this, and others are much much larger. The record for the largest Turkey in the world is 86 pounds, and the record holder is a Turkey called Tyson.

Are Turkeys Fast?

Turkey’s are super fast! They walk really fast and run even faster. A grown Turkey can reach speeds of up to 25 miles per hour when they are running. If a Turkey does feel like getting its feet off the ground, and they start to fly, it can reach impressive speeds of up to 55 miles per hour. That’s even faster than Usain Bolt!

Do Turkeys Gobble?

Interestingly, only male Turkeys are able to make the gobbling noise. Both male and female Turkeys can make “purr” noises, but only the males will gobble. This is because they want to show off and catch the attention of the lovely females surrounding them.

Turkey’s Color Change Colour!

That’s right, they change colour! Depending on how the Turkey is feeling, its head will change colour. It can change between multiple colours, the most common being red, blue and white. If you see a more intense colour in Turkey, it means they are feeling strongly about something.

Turkeys Can See Better Than Humans!

Turkeys have amazing eyesight, so much so that their eyes span an impressive 270 degrees. Their eyesight is 3 times better than the average human, and they can see in colour, which is super impressive.

We love it when people come to visit our Turkeys, and they love it too! They love to show off and say hello to everyone who stops by!
