Donkeys
At Nunny’s Farm, we have 3 Donkeys – Monty, Hector & Conker.
Everyone at the farm loves the Donkeys, and whilst they are very cheeky and mischievous, they do love a good pamper and some time to relax!
Here are some facts about donkeys
How Old Do Donkeys Get?
Donkeys can live for over 50 years. As they get older, they love to relax and be pampered! We take extra good care of our Donkeys to ensure they enjoy their old age!
Are Donkeys Smart?
Donkeys are super intelligent and have a great memory – they can remember their friends from 25 years ago!
How strong are Donkeys?
Donkeys are super strong – some are even stronger than horses! They can carry heavy loads up big hills and on bumpy roads!
Donkeys Love Their Friends!
Donkeys don’t like being kept on their own, they like to be with their friends. But, a single donkey will live quite happily with goats. They are sociable characters that can make friends with anyone!
Why Do Donkeys Have Such Large Ears?
Donkeys have very large ears, but they are not just to make them look cute! Donkeys big ears help them to keep cool! Donkeys evolved in Africa, so to keep them from getting too hot, their ears grew to let out the heat!
Is It True That Donkeys Are Stubborn?
Yes and no! Donkeys are known for being stubborn animals, which they can be at times, but it is more of an act of defence and standing their ground. Donkeys love their friends, and they want to protect them, so sometimes if they get a bit scared, they can be stubborn over their home!
The Donkeys at Nunny’s Farm are young, they will soon be learning how to pull a cart, or accept a saddle. This is a useful skill for them to learn and it provides them with an activity to stop them from getting bored. A bored animal becomes a destructive animal so they are often given enrichment toys or puzzles to keep them busy. They love to be in the fields getting some fresh air, socialising with each other and playing with the team.
When visiting Nunny’s Farm, you can come and see the Donkeys running around and playing with each other. It’s super fun to watch, and if you’re lucky, you will be able to give them a nice big cuddle!
