Geese
On the farm, we have two breeding pairs of West of England Geese. These are on the rare breed survival trust’s watch list as a priority breed. We hope to breed our pairs to ensure this lovely bird doesn’t die out. They are grazers, and have a calm nature.

Do Geese Have Many Friends?
Geese are very social creatures, and have a very strong pair bond. Once they bond they will remain together for life.
Do they like water?
Geese are technically waterfowl, but actually spend a lot of their time on land. They can and do swim but will spend most of their time out of the water.
How Do Geese Communicate?
Geese can communicate over long distances with that well know Honking call. This is used for both warnings and for interest in other geese. Geese also use their boy language to communicate with each other.
What do they look like?
A West of England Goose is usually between 6 -9KG, and with an orange bill and blue eyes.
What Do They Eat?
Geese are herbivores and they mainly eat grass and clover, with the addition of pellets when in breeding season.
